Powder Bathroom Mood Board and Progress

Powder Bathroom Mood Board and Progress

Hi friends, I wanted to share our powder bathroom mood board and progress with you.  Since I like to share a mood board every Monday, I figured this would be a good way to still keep that tradition, but also keep you up to date on what has been going on in our powder bathroom. I have posted some of the progress… or destruction lately in instagram stories, but I wanted to fill you in in case you are just now joining along… which by the way, thank you for being here!

In this post in particular I would like to start from the beginning of this process. I will be going over my decisions regarding the vanity. It was the starting point for the whole room and I feel like this is why it deserves it’s own post!  I started this mood board back in July but had been bouncing ideas in my head since May. I have slowly tweaked the mood board and FINALLY think we have a plan! I will post a picture of my initial mood board and you can see how it has evolved over the last 5 months.

The whole bathroom renovation centered around a new vanity.  I started out wanting a vintage vanity that we could repurpose. It would add so much character and warmth to the space. I will post pictures of ones we looked at (and ALMOST purchased) from Palladio in Memphis, TN. It was very similar to this but the top was solid bluestone. I ended up deciding to go a different direction which is what led me to the first mood board.

Will never seemed 100% sold on the vintage vanity idea and I knew I wanted something that not only I would enjoy, but also something Will could too. This vintage dresser was 3k+ for the dresser alone, then we would have to find someone to install/retrofit a sink into it. It was going to be a lot. Plus, the vintage dressers we looked at kept appearing too red / warm for our liking.  Will is a big fan of dark wood without red/yellow undertones. Dark walnut is his favorite. I wanted to incorporate that into the room and knew that a vanity was the best place to add that characteristic. Our entire house is filled with white cabinets so I really welcomed this idea of adding a dark walnut vanity. Here is the vanity I was crushing on from the original mood board. I showed the entire mood board to Will and while I knew he liked it, I could tell he wasn’t convinced on it.

Over time I tweaked some things but certain factors still remained: I wanted a primarily timeless/classic look that I could be happy with for a long time. I had been studying pictures I liked off the internet and found the characteristics that I liked and pulled it all together to create something special for us. The main characteristics of this mood board stayed the same: dark wood, black countertops, and white floor. So classic and oh so beautiful.powder bathroom mood board

I do apologize because some of these links are not to the correct item. I could not find the exact link since this was made months ago, but hoping to be able to once we get closer to finishing!!!

I finally came upon the perfect vanity while actually looking for a storage cabinet online. I loved everything about it. I love how it sits on legs and I love the look of the inset cabinet doors. I even loved the hardware and usually I like to replace that sort of stuff on with my own. It felt classic, yet modern. It felt new, yet old. Aside from the jaw dropping price tag, it was absolutely perfect. Next, in order to convince Will, I had to find the perfect piece of stone to go with our perfect marble floors. Read how we chose our marble floors here!

  1. […] Today I am sharing our powder bathroom progress & how we chose our marble floors. This project as you know from instagram stories has been concentrating most of our time. While I am enjoying every second of the “in progress-ness” about this space, Will has been shutting the door every time he sees it open! One of the big differences between us! haha. But honestly, I have been so thankful for the creative freedom that he’s allowed me to have in here. So to go in order of how this room came to be, I started with the vanity. You can read about that here. […]

  3. […] Our powder bathroom faucet dilemma… Part of me wasn’t really sure if I should dedicate an entire blog post just to picking out this faucet, but since it caused me to spend countless hours deciding on it, I figured I should make one in hope that it helps you.
