Styling a guest bedroom, with kids. I am sorry for the pitiful title of this blog post. I am not the best with words and considering how this guest bedroom is honestly a catch all room right now, this is the best title I got! Even though the title stinks, I’m going to share how I’m using our guest bedroom corner to function for kids too!

If you are stuck in a situation where you need a guest bedroom but also need a child friendly space, I’m sharing what I’ve done to make this manageable for both. First, we moved her dresser in here. This sounds obvious, but it took us months to come to that realization. Her clothes were constantly on the floor, in bags, and on the bed. Once we moved her dresser down from her nursery upstairs, it made life a lot simpler. Once we had the dresser, we kept adding items around it that were really fun for her and pretty for me.
Recently we found this antique rocker at an antique store about 30 minutes from where we live. We initially had it upstairs in her “nursery” but we decided to bring this one downstairs and we love it. She can climb in it herself and gets so proud of herself. I’m in love with the little details on it. I will share several more child sized rockers that caught my eye on the internet because I think they add so much character to a space!

We tucked them in the bottom drawer for easy access. They had been in a basket but I realized the basket caused more of a mess. This is easy to tuck away and forget.
I had this simple layout initially and something just felt off about it. I love simplicity, but it was too simple for me. Plus all the warm tones were making me feel a bit off. I decided the simplest, cheapest, easiest and most fun way to break up all the warm brown tones would be to paint the lamp. I love that lamp and knew when I got it off facebookmarketplace.com a year ago that this could be a fun project. I considered painting it black because I have seen so much beautiful inspiration out there with black lamps. But as a general rule, I gravitate to lighter colors. I thought for hours on what color to paint and then finally realized I was annoying myself with my indecisiveness. I decided to think about pulling a color from nature, specifically a color from the vintage art.
I had one paint swatch from a previous project and decided to try the colors on it. I held them up to the dresser and each piece of art.
River Gorge Gray seemed to compliment all of the elements that I was working with. It closely matched the skies in the top picture and complimented the patch of bare field in the second picture. Boom. I love it when everything blends together really nicely in a beautiful way.
I thought it would be helpful to map it all out on paper to help you style your own space. More than anything, have fun with it.
Where we discuss all things design, obviously.
