I think one of the biggest ways to add extra interest and appeal to a room is by using large scale art to transform a space. If you remember, a few months back, I worked with a high school friend on a free giveaway. We transformed her entryway using paint, lighting and accessories. In my opinion, adding art is the perfect way to add your personal style and bring all eyes in to focus somewhere special.

USING LARGE SCALE ART

I decided to dedicate an entire post to this because I personally love art. I think it does more than just add something pretty to the walls. I think it can give your space meaning and bring out feeling. Using art can show your personal style, it brings an identity to the space that paint and lighting just can’t do. To begin, she had a big open area right inside her front door that they didn’t really know what they wanted to do with or how they wanted to function. ALL ABOUT THE ART

After we decided on how it was going to function, we began on the fun details. Her new space was going to have a big open wall that couldn’t really put shelves, cabinets or storage due to the chaise occupying that area so my first thought is always: ART! It’s a way to add purpose without beauty. I thought a set of 4 frames would be LOVELY in her room especially since you could see it as soon as you walked in the front door. The only problem we had was finding art BIG enough to fill that wall.

THE DESIGN

This is where putting measurements into a design program that can show you scale can be SO beneficial. If it’s a simple rectangular wall like this, pencil and paper can do wonders! I used CAD because that’s what I have but there are other simple plotting design resources out there too. Lots of times, you end up finding out that you can go BIGGER with the space than what you originally planned! For her specific space, having 4 frames at 20in x 28 in worked PERFECTLY.

PHOTOWALL TO OUR RESCUE

But the real question comes where do I find prints large enough that won’t break the bank?? Lots of times the larger you go with print sizes, the more expensive it gets, quickly. This is why instead of buying prints, it’s better to get a poster when you are looking at anything 16×20 and up in size. This is where photowall came to our rescue! We were able to pick a poster AND choose a frame. Lots of times the frames end up being more expensive than the actual print, which is why I love photowall. They shipped the prints within 4 days and it was sealed in a nice protective box. We had zero issues upon opening and the quality ended up being SO amazing! For a poster, you can not tell any difference between this and a print in my opinion. They have so many design styles to choose from. Boho, modern, vintage, floral, rustic. You be the designer!
